Thursday October 31

Please send to school:
1) Head phones: Next week we will start listening to books through RAZ kids on the computers. Please send a pair of head phone that your child can keep at school and use to listen to books.

2) Building materials: Students will be needed several materials for a build project. If you have any of the following items. Please send them by Tuesday November 5th in a bag so that they can be easily stored in the classroom.
  • clean styrofoam
  • cereal box cardboard (please flatten the boxes)
Today we had so many different character join our class today.



In math we learned a couple of new games and practiced our counting on strategy. Please feel free to print the picture and play at home.





In social we finished of our read aloud and Reviewed what we had learned about the Prairie landscape. We also learned that we will be flying to a new place next week. I wonder where it will be?

 We also had a chance to read to a buddy. Ask me about what I read with my buddy.

Wednesday October 30

Halloween: Students are welcome to dress up tomorrow, wear their pajamas or regular clothes. Please remember to keep any weapons at home.

Today in writing we continued to use our checklist to check for descriptive words. Ask me about some of the descriptive words I had in my writing.

In our visual journals we took sometime to finish our prairie pages. We needed to have a picture and a sentence about why each area is important to the prairie landscape or how it would help people live.


In social we checked into see what we had learned about the land in the prairies and why people would choose to live there.



We also had a chance to practice logging onto the computers again. Next week we will start listening to books through RAZ kids. It would be great if you could send your child with a pair of head phone that they can keep at school and use to listen to a book.

Tuesday October 29th

First thing this morning we created our own skip counting puzzles and then a friend try to solve it.



We finished reading our book called The New Land - A First Year on the Prairie.
Some things we noticed
- the land is important - they planted food and used the sod for their house
- you need water to survive - they dug a well
-  you have to get ready for the winter that is long and cold

We then created a page in our visual journals to show the important things we noticed about the land.
During math we worked on our zoo keeper problem finding solutions for our chosen number of legs.




We used a checklist during writing time today to help us make sure our work was good quality.  Today we only focused on making sure we had used capital letters and periods correctly.

We logged onto the computers today.  It will be easier if I  memorize my student number.  we talked about safety and not sharing passwords and student numbers with others. We also learned to be patient.

Monday October 28th

Today during writing we listened to the story I need a monster. We glued in shapes to make our very own shape monsters. After making our shape monsters we used descriptive words to describe our monster and shared our monsters name and where he/she lives in our bedroom.




In music we played busted. We sang O Canada and a Remembrance Day song on the risers.


In art we colored our grass and then we made it turn into paint by using watercolor pencils.

Friday October 25th

Today in writing we continued to work on descriptive writing. We had to choose something to describe then write descriptive sentences so that a friend could figure out what we where describing.

In art we started some Inchie art of the prairie landscape. We are working with watercolor
pencils. Ask me about they type of sky I am going to have in my Inchie art?

Thursday October 24th

Today in word work we did. We where finding the words from brushing for the word families us, ug, ush, ing, ub, ung

In math we continued to our investigation around the zookeeper problem and thought about how we could systematically organize our work so that we could see what other solutions there might be.


We continued reading Pioneer kids. One of the characters tripped Stefan and he ended up breaking a very special Ukrainian egg. How do you think Stefan and Luke can solve the problem?

In social we brainstormed about what we already knew, wonders we had and wrote descriptive words around prairie animals.



In art we practiced drawing different prairies animals such as a trout, prairie dog, coyote. Ask me about the prairie animal I drew. Maybe I can practice drawing some animals tonight.

Wednesday October 23rd

Fun lunch is tomorrow October 24th.

In table time we sorted words into alphabetical order.

In physical education we played catch me if you can. Ask me how to play?

In writing we started writing post cards to our family members. We had to think about what we might see in the prairies such as there are farms where wheat is grown.

In math we continued to work on the zoo problem and focused on practicing counting on and think about how many combinations of animals the zookeeper could see.

In social we started learning about the importance of water. We learned that the bow river water comes from the mountains and goes all the way to hudson bay. Ask me about how we use water?

Tuesday October 22nd

Today some of us had ozobot or textile club at lunch. Ask me about what we did?

In physical education we worked on skipping and galloping. We played horses and monkeys. Ask me how to play?

In literacy we read a book then did our book tub sheet.




During writing we read the book The New Land and then we wrote descriptive sentences about what we might hear and see in the pictures from the book.


In math we worked on the zookeeper problem which you can see below. We thought about what types of criteria we should have so that we can show our thinking. We need to have number sentences, pictures, words and we need to organize our work.


In social we worked in our visual journal books and wrote words about the prairie landscape. We also had a chance to visit the prairies through google earth and see how important rivers are to communities.


In health we discussed what our lunch supervisors do. Ask me about what the lunch room supervisor does.
